Are there any alternate routes to get to Pigeon Forge from Exit 407(I-40) to avoid all the traffic delays? There must be some back roads somewhere.

There are not really any shortcuts into Pigeon Forge. There are a few different ways in but they are not much shorter in time.
If you go out interstate 40 toward Newport you can turn down 411 to Sevierville or on out and go through Cosby to Gatlinburg.

How about this? From exit 407--Rt 66 to Boyds Creek Hwy to Old Sevierville/Knoxville Hwy. Across W. Main St. to Hardin Ln. to New Era Rd. to Apple Valley Rd. back to the Parkway. It looks longer, but would avoid the traffic delays. Does this make sense?

I think that you "may" be able to get there going that way. The only problem right now is that they have the Old Knoxville Highway blocked. They are building a bridge there and you can not get through. Looks like they may have actually taken part of Eagle's Landing Golf course.
We used to go out the Old Knoxville Highway all of the time and hit 411 into Sevierville and that usually saved some time.
I will get an update on construction tomorrow when I am down there.

I always wondered how to get in quicker.. When I am going into Pigeon forge on a busy day to go camping I usually take the back road to Dollywood then take the road near the indoor outlets then throught the light on wears valley road. I need to get the directions next week when i go down. It will be the rod run so it will be busy

It's now even a little more difficult to get to Pigeon Forge because they are working on the bridge at the main intersection - the big traffic light where Chapman Highway and Hwy 66 meets.
Plus they are doing road work on Chapman Highway and there is one stretch where it is down to one lane both ways.
They are still working on Old Knoxville Highway. Not sure how long that construction will take.

I don't know what direction you are coming from but we travel from the south(Chattanooga) and we take the exit off the interstate to Maryville to Townsend and get on 321 in Townsend(Wears Valley Road) and end up at traffic light #3 on the parkway in PF. It is not faster but the ride is more scenic and enjoyable. Lots of little craft shops along the way. We do this when we have plenty of time for a leisure ride. No bumper to bumper situation this way.

Is the Old Knoxville Highway open yet? I'm coming Memorial Day Weekend and would like to avoid the traffic in Sevierville.

Old Knoxville Highway is still closed. We were up there last Thursday.

We will be coming from the west, on I-40 (through Nashville). Should we leave I-40 west of Knoxville and go through Maryville and Townsend? We have been told this is a good way to go. Thanks for any help you can give us.

Driving in through Maryville and Townsend is a great route... not a shorter route, but beautiful anyway. Easy drive and nice country.
